And so we say farewell to the last full week of the summer holidays so it was a packed programme of dotting about and fun having. If I could find batteries I would post pics of some of it.

Sunday: Bank Holiday weekend but the weather was reasonable. However, I did little except contemplate the computer, cook a pork shoulder  joint to perfection and eat vast amounts of it, watch footy on the telly  and sort out a bit of one cardboard box.

Bank Holiday Monday: grey. Went nowhere, had Olympics withdrawal, watched footy.

Tuesday: went to shops. Watched England destroy the South Africans at Trent Bridge before they had need of the much vaunted floodlights or even the tea break. Graham Smith booed by crowd for poor showing. The Pietersen juggernaut rolls on. Young Broad had 5 for 13 before 12 were hit off his last over.

Wednesday: Reeth Agricultural Show did not disappoint. Highlights were:
  • The Shetland pony class where tiny little ponies trotted round the ring on leaders. There was an Irish Wolfhound in the crowd bigger than them. So cute!
  • The driving class featuring another Shetland this time in charge of two small boys wearing cloth caps, which they doffed to the judge at appropriate moments. They didn't get a place but came out of it with money and chocolate.
  • The produce tent, stuffed with magnificent cakes, jams, bread, flowers, vegetables and biscuits. Excellent.
  • The fell race which was actually a bit disappointing with a smaller entry than last year and no record time.
In the evening an epic League Cup game between Nottingham Forest and Sunderland was on telly. Keano started his career in England at Forest under the legendary Brian Clough and was well received by the crowd. Earnshaw scored a great free kick for them before Phil Bardsley equalised with his first goal ever. On to extra time where it was soon settled by our new buy David Healy scoring the winner. We have Northampton Town in the next round.

The quiz had arrived while I was out with mixed news: I got one wrong, that's bad, but the setters have decided to carry on after Christmas so that's good.

Fine but very windy

Thursday: The -athon in Durham was a classic. We had £5 to spend on one of the others buying something to wear or use. I got Joani - again so got her: earrings, a stapler, set of collectable erasers and something else I've forgotten in a three for a pound deal. For £1.50 I found a weetiny cupcake for attaching to a mobile phone. Unfortunately her mobile is so slick there was nothing to attach it to, so she put it on her key-ring instead.

I bought myself another new bracelet and a half price Davis Emanuel necklace. The others were stunned by my never before seen good taste in accessories.

I got a green diaphanous scarf and a calcite stone necklace for my treat from Debra. Pat did really well out of Joani getting a belt, a poncho, a mask, an umbrella and a weetiny fobwatch - Five items for 5 quid. As you can see, Joani is a professional shopper.

We had the revealathon at the new Slug and Lettuce and plenty of platters to eat. Really good fun and I only spent £20.70 on food, wine, gifts and transport. Good day. I started the quiz when I got home.

Muggy then sunny

Friday: Non event day. Samil Patel was the pick of the bowlers in a slightly better game at the Oval. Graham Smith succumbed to his dodgy elbow and called it a day as South African captain for the one day series games remaining. Pietersen failed to make any runs.

Saturday: Shopping at Northallerton was pleasant. Cakes and pizza as well as giant Johnson's pork pie were purchased. The posh shop, Lewis & Cooper, had already cleared its shelves ready for Christmas. August?

Still muggy and sunny.

Sunday: Stuffed at home by Manchester City 0-3. Re-signed Shaun Wright-Phillips scored 2. In the bottom 3 already. Finished the quiz apart from photo of character from science fiction film. Looks like it should Be some H. G. Wells thing. but I can't find the picture on Google. England won again in a rain affected match at Lord's.

Rained all day.
I'll look for batteries tomorrow and then a few pictures may appear.
So the countdown to the new term begins. Oh dear.
