Mistletoe's Musings

I have had a shower today!!! That's the first since January. Oh it's wonderful to be clean all over. While moisturising the scar from the Event, I discovered a stitch still in it so I have pulled it out and kept it. It is blue. When I had my head stitches removed, years ago, they left one in there too and the nurse at my GP's place had to remove it. I didn't find that one for months so finding one within a week is good going.

Next week I am getting my hair cut. Woot!. She comes to my house anyway so that is no different except I could choose any time I liked. Next Wednesday morning it is then.

Tonight I am going out for tea at the Italian place. I am already excited and been trying to find something to get on my swollen foot. So I am sitting here with one shoe on and a sandal that fastens with velcro that just barely meets if I don't move around too much. My first adventure downstairs AND outside. Heee! I have put on new socks for the occasion that David would be proud of: red heel and toe, black body with vaguely Argyll pattern of snowflake and little heart in red and white. and little diamante sparkles on the leg. Sunderland colours.

They didn't do so well at Anfield on Tuesday, losing 2 - 0. It could have been different if  Kenwyne hadn't panicked when through one on one with the keeper in the 4th minute. Now we have to beat Tottenham on Saturday if we are to keep out of the relegation mire. Still, after a good start Newcastle lost to Man Utd, so they are worse off than us and with some tricky games coming up. Other results didn't go so well with Hull, Spurs and Blackburn all getting something.

The quiz arrived and I sort of got 149 except my entry had been mangled in the post and the first third of the answer sheet was torn off. They gave me the points anyway. Starting this month's has been hard. I only know 6 out of 150 for sure. Plenty of googling to do then.

Yesterday it snowed. When will it ever end?

This year is very strange. I feel like I haven't started 2009 and it's March already!

Latest on the Event: today I am prowling about with a stick, which means I can carry things like a cup of coffee or a plate. So I have had three cups off coffee already because I can and the journey to the bathroom will not be some epic adventure requiring porters and 30 minutes notice.
Of course, the foot is still swollen like a pudding, has virtually no mobility and it hurts, but I can feel there is an end to this, hopefully in April.

Plenty of sport to occupy me today and I am going to attempt full Sunday lunch for tea, so roast beast and Yorkshire pudding for the first time since January. It's amazing how pathetically little things cheer the soul. Plus it's bright and breezy outside, people are doing the Sunday morning carwash thing and I might be on the verge of starting a Spangel blurting for grazieprego if I can untangle my thoughts into something that is entertaining, or at least makes sense and sounds vaguely in character. I've never tried Spike-voice. Oh dear.

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Meanwhile, I'm as nervous as a cat on hot bricks with the match looming ahead this afternoon. The chance is there in that Newcastle are on the ropes with half the team either missing through injury, or on the way out the door. If we don't beat them now, we don't deserve to survive.

I shall take it as a good omen that Athletic Bilbao, the Spanish team founded by Sunderland workers, came back to win 3-2 in the dying minutes last night. I shall also remember that our greatest triumph in modern times at St James' Park happened in appalling weather and saw the end of the Ruud Gullit regime there. Although it's dry now, there are blizzards on the way from Russia allegedly, somewhere in the North Sea now. Could be snowed in tomorrow. I have food. The only worry is power cuts.

I was back at the hospital today for a check-up. They took my cast off, removed the stitches and put on a new pink cast.

Very cold out today and the forecast is for sub-zero temperatures at the weekend and snow on Monday. I'm glad to be in.

A few of the people that meant a lot to me have died recently. Add to that John Martyn (60) and the incomparable cricket scorekeeper Bill Frindell (69). He was part of the Test Match radio broadcast team for more than 40 years and was affectionately known as Bearders or the Bearded Wonder. He was one of a kind and probably irreplaceable. My, times are changing.

Was Bones not on this week? Bah.

Pause for stupidity. Joe Kinnear, manager of Newcastle Utd. pronounced Charles N'zogbia's name as 'Insomnia'. He was so upset he will never play for NUFC again. So there! That means they will be without Owen (ankle ligaments); Barton (broken metatarsal); Insomnia N'zogbia (sold to Wigan); Given (on his way to Man City); Viduka (injured); Martins (injured) + others, before the Derby game on Sunday. Hope I'm not counting my chickens.

e.t.a. The pictures didn't show up and so they're probably not behind a cut if they are up now. Sorry!

You should see my bruises. They are gross or totally awesome depending on your attitude to a foot that looks like raw liver with toes attached and the back of a calf that is completely purple. I look like the girl that turned into a blueberry on Willy Wonka only not as round.

In today's football Sunderland could not score, but neither could Blackburn so we have a replay to progress in the cup.

In Bones I shall be posting my thoughts tomorrow as I have a free day and two whole episodes to tackle. I shall content myself with Meh and Phwoarr for now.
