Telephone saga update.

Went down to parents this morning and, hopefully, fixed phone. Basically it was a reset job and a lesson in watching the battery level for when it needs to go on the charger. I rang when I got home and we didn't get cut off so let us hope that is that. I got my dinner there too so no need for cooking tonight. We watched tennis from Australia and bowls from East Anglia so that was quite fun.

As a result, I haven't had time to watch a film today though I did start my Season 3 rewatch last night so that's one item ticked. I saw one or two things to comment on in the opener and will have to start Soccer Mom in the Mini van again to keep the focus on Booth instead of Brennan's family journey. Incidentally, is it just me, but why would someone with no interest in sports and a lack of pop culture knowledge use and understand the term 'Soccer Mom'? It is such an un-Brennan type thing. She has no idea about soccer and no liking for momness. Careless writing again.

Also, I need to know if the hockey player in the picture behind Booth's desk is a Boston Bruin and if he is famous. Just a theory.

No progress on the Darren Bent story though he will go I think. *pout*

Will ask spouse to confirm tonight, but I think it's Bobby Orr, probably Boston's most famous player and about the right vintage to be a childhood hero of Booth's. I think in a couple of Booth office scenes there is a black and white photo of a hockey player who seems to be flying through the air, kind of sideways. This is also Bobby Orr.

Thanks that is very helpful. I had to google the uniform to work out it was a Bruins player but my knowledge was non existent after that. Any info from spouse gratefully received.

Spouse confirms that the picture is indeed of Bobby Orr. While this question holds no interest for him, his theory on why Booth would have a picture of Orr in his office is that he is arguably the second greatest hockey player of all time (some would argue for the greatest) and probably a sports hero in Booth's childhood, even though he's not a Flyer.

Excellent. I will now research Bobby Orr. I agree with spouse's theory on why Booth would have a non-Flyer picture. ooo I have a project *rubs hands*

You're well ahead of me on the hockey player. I always assumed it was supposed to be photo of a young Booth... IOW he could well be a super star.

Well done on the phone, hope it stays OK. I have a temperamental juicer if you need a new appliance challenge ;)

It really bugs me if I can't work something out. The photo will change later on to a Flyers player. So I wondered why he would have a Bruins player. [livejournal.com profile] huronia has spouse on the case.

No good with proper electrical equipment. I would say loose wire and get a new one.

Thank God, 'cause I'm useless when it comes to sports!

But I do get how things can bug you. With me it's recognizing lines of poetry or a few bars of music and having to identify them.

Wire's fine, think it is mechanical (probably worn out.)

Oh strewth yes on the poetry. I had to know where slipped the surly bonds of earth/and touched the face of God came from. I knew I knew it when Reagan borrowed it, but I had to know from where.

Yes these modern electrical things don't last for ever like they should *nods*

It's like Henry V, often quoted, but few know where it's from. He captured the essence of flying perfectly.

The "soccer mom" reference worked for me entirely because it was a HUGE deal in the Clinton elections in 1992 AND 1996. So there was a lot of news focus on "the soccer mom" and in '96 AND '00 there continued to be media talk surrounding the elections about "wooing the soccer moms" who are/were perceived as being the swing vote that got Clinton elected (at least the first time).

In 1992, Brennan was in high school and schools here have a field day over the election cycle in a presidential election year with mock elections and current events articles and the like, and in 1996 she could vote (show says she was born in 1976), and she could vote in 2000...so...as a responsible voter, she likely would have encountered the term being used to describe "standard suburban, often stay-at-home, mom" since it was batted around SO much.

This is excellent information. We Brits did not get that sort of coverage of electioneering stuff so the phrase came out of the blue. Thank you for adding to my knowledge!
