The Vikings (1958) co-starring Kirk Douglas as his half brother. See imdb for information.

Jorvik was the Viking name for York and lots of well preserved (thanks to waterlogging) items were found in the Coppergate area of the city which formed the basis of the Jorvik Museum where you can take a time capsule to visit the Viking settlement. Here's the website tour page: http://www.jorvik-viking-centre.co.uk/visit6.htm

York, a city that is home to 10,000 people and is covered in filth and muck hee! i love how that site tempts me with the realistic smells and such of ancient times.

wow, i wish i could visit. i remember reading about the danelaw and various waves of settlers in england, as it related to linguistic diffusion, but i don't know a whole lot about their trade routes and such, further east. thanks for the link! that was very cool.
