Does SAD affect you even when you're at home? Any way, what news?
1. I have just finished this month's quiz which was a bit of a drag to be honest; hardly any exciting little nooks to get lost down. It was mostly google, wikipedia, write answer. Incidentally while looking for the German for cross country skiing I came across an inexplicable reference in the wikipedia entry on that topic, which would probably offend
kita0610 immediately. Not being a member I couldn't remedy the slur but if you want to look for yourself it's here under 'A Hobby and a Sport'.
2. Went to a 40th birthday party last night. Nothing too remarkable you might think but the 40 year old was a former pupil whose daughter I now teach. To add to the surrealism of the whole thing another former pupil was there who said I taught her 20 years ago and I look exactly the same. She didn't, as I have no idea who she was. Anyway, the evening was very splendid with the fp's hubby fronting Trevor and the Negatives in a trip down memory lane of Beatles and other 60s standards. Maybe I am old as I remember all the words, but not the former student's names. I met a lot of old friends, most of whom have retired, so that was depressing.
It was all for a good cause though. 15 years ago The couple's first baby, Matthew, was born with a genetic disease which is incurable and cuts the child's life to less than a year. I will never forget his funeral, particularly as the baby's grandmother, a colleague who had just retired was the organist of the chapel where the service took place and had to take part in the service in a way she would not have wished.
So last night was a fund raiser for the Jennifer Trust Charity that supports families of children with the same disorder. Happily, Trevor and Jane have two beautiful daughters as the disease only affects males although females can be carriers. Strangely, Jane is from a family of girls only.
3. Christmas shopping in Durham went remarkably well with jumpers for dad and a makeup box for Louise as well as sundry little treats including a white Christmas cactus to grow. Obviously the Newcastle experience last month was an aberration.
4. Sport was OK, though it was sad for Scotland to go out in the way they did. Let's hope they get a decent Group for the World Cup qualification as their exploits this time round will have moved them up the rankings. McClaren seems to be carrying Sven's luck. Still Croatia could beat us and then the fat will be in the fire.
5. I have read some very good fic this week, almost all from the IWRY marathon. If you don't mind Bangel, give it a whirl.
6. As mentioned on the day, Thursday was the anniversary of the operation to remove the non-malignant meningioma from my brain but since Thursday 2007 was the crappest day of my life I am not going to dwell on it. Hopefully the anniversary of the operation to repair the hole left in my skull the following March will be better.
7. Talking of skulls, Bones was no more than average this week.
8. A day at Bowburn Hall hotel on Friday for the annual standardisation AQA meeting was only cheery in that I missed the Children in Need day at school. I said quite a lot though and it sounded as if I knew what I was talking about as the other people there were tres impressed. And we got the grades right. So there.

I guessed the perp as soon as he appeared, which was in the teaser, and Booth's attempts to say he'd ever been humiliated were more humiliating than what he came up with from his high school exploits. But, I liked the way he turned into 'that guy' who is the Angel in
tesla321's S-Curve story so that was funny. Of course, if you haven't read The S Curve that comparison is lost. So why not read the never ending story of Xander and AU human!Angel's exploits in a demon free Sunnydale?

Date: 2007-11-19 07:23 pm (UTC)Thanks for noting my survival. It's been 13 years since the EVENT and I am glad to be here. Didn't have LJ then, or a computer for that matter, so we must be thankful or I wouldn't have met all these great people, if only on-line. There's still good conversation - and reading.
When Bones is good I really enjoy it but when it's clunky in the scripting or characterisation it's kinda meh. I'm toying with trying not to get too invested in this season, bearing in mind the writers' strike means it's probably shot after Christmas, but I can't resist David in whatever crap he appears. *Is fangirl* hee!

Date: 2007-11-19 08:53 pm (UTC)yes, bones i think, is getting too reliant on the UST between booth and bones, than on making the procedural interesting. while i enjoy the UST, i wish it were more complicated sometimes. and yeah, the strike may put the kibosh on all our fun. i hope not.
yes! i, too, am very glad that you survived your event. and thirteen years later, we were able to meet here in the virtual realm. :)
