Better late than never

You know this time of year is a real pain. Back to work and therefore less time to read and post. I shall draw a veil over this first week of semi-chaos and inept leadership activity from the artist formerly known as wanker. Cockup Dickhead is running that sobriquet close. I mention merely in passing that when the registers finally appeared on the system two days late on Wednesday (bearing in mind the time-table had been running since July), my Year 10 class had 33 names in it, 14 of whom I wasn't actually teaching, three who I was teaching not on the list.
So, what about Bones this week? I enjoyed it, mostly. Read on....
This was quite entertaining with an appropriate amount of humour, mostly at the expense of Brennan, and a pleasing return to sharp banter with Booth and a nice little sense of insight from him that didn't require any input from Sweets who was, however, far too visible in the episode for my liking to the detriment of Booth time. I don't think he made it into the Jeffersonian once while Sweets was all over like a rash. Put him back in his box please.
Having said that, I did enjoy his scenes with Booth which were almost buddy buddy. It was nice to see Booth treat him as an adult even if it was a very childish act to go find Brennan while she was out with boyfriend number two and then say he was gay. Poor old Coldplay.
Brennan was particularly good tonight almost a return to her old fish out of water while appearing to be totally logical about relationships. She thought she was right until they dumped her and she realised that other people, even men, have feelings that can be hurt. She saw that although she may think romance is transient and therefore bound to end in disappointment, Booth does not and his thoughts about monogamy and the one person in all the world were at least listened to and added to her world view.
Irritants:
1. The case was weak as I didn't see Holly until she was being interrogated. Where did she come from?
2. Daisy.
3. Continuity problems (what's new) with the total ignoring of last week's breakup. No sense of tension between Hodgins and Angela or Cam who seems to have reverted to knowing looks and smirking acting.
4. My name is Zack and I used to be your friend. Hello? Hell-o-o-o.
Good:
1. Booth turning up with coffee at 6.30 in the morning.
2. Booth's reactions to the boyfriends - like a guard dog just baring his teeth.
3. Who went through a door first. There was a bit of rivalry and at one point they tried to go through together, Brennan winning. By the end of the episode he was helping her into her coat, offering to buy her dinner (admittedly with coupons) and opening the door for her.
4. The way the theme was relevant to both the case and the team's behaviour without it being imposed. Brennan's relationships were signalled before the nature of the victim's job was discovered so it felt more natural. Even the SUV discussions weren't as squirmy as usual. Booth even made a risque joke without blushing this week. Down there? Underwater. Of course. Huh!
Other news.
England won in a World Cup Qualifier. Away. Against Croatia. Very pleasing.
Sunderland led for most of the game today at one of our bete noir clubs and then they got a draw in the last ten minutes. Newcastle lost 1 - 2 to Hull City at home with the biggest cheer going to a banner which was carried round the ground. It read 'Cockney Mafia Out'. Bit OTT there. No one has woken up with a horse's head in their bed yet.
