mistletoeNow the A-potterclypse has died down a bit, let's get back to the essentials. Angelfic is still being written and read by my friends and at journals I drop in on so I was pleased to see a meme on wesleysgirl's journal asking for 5 top fics.
Please post in your own journal recommending 5 (or more) of your favorite Jossverse fics. Stories should be the ones that best remind you of what you loved about the shows -- this can be the dialogue, the characters, the plots, the angst, the humor, or whatever you find yourself missing the most. (It's okay to include self-recs on your list! You can also choose to do only BtVS or Ats stories instead of both. Do what you feel like.) Comment to this post with a link to your post, and I'll compile a master list of the recs so that we can all feel the love. Feel free to pimp this far and wide!
The furthering of this list will occur when I've thought about it.

In other news an attempt to see the cricket between Durham and Middlesex in the pro-40 failed as it rained. Of course the sun is shining now. The day wasn't a total loss as we rendezvoused at The Church Mouse (aargh - mouse!) for lunch and stayed there for the afternoon instead. Very pleasant indeed and I am stuffed.
Secondly, just as I was leaving, the post arrived with the quiz results and I got them all right!!!!! Yippeee. First time in years and it was just for a virtual £14 but I am so proud. I am promoted to League C. Must look at this month's questions now.

I have so many that I can't narrow it to the 5 best but these are some that sprang to mind that weren't series. So I have to miss out ducks's Bringing Him Back and my all time favourite Time is the Fire in which we burn etc. on www.lovethatdares.com in favour of one-shots or, in the case of the first one, one shot with sequel. These two are old school and some of the first fanfic I read.
M****n is hard to track down these days so I am grateful for Slashing the Angel where some of her stuff can still be found, although she prefers to be anonymous these days.. One she wrote that has disappeared into the ether is To Serve in Heaven (I think that was the title) but I enjoy these two almost as much.

The sequel is the better of the two but you need to read the first one which is a variant on how The Trial might have turned out if Spike had been there. The sequel is to my mind, just amazing, I love anything angsty and this is quintessential angsting Angel with a side of smirking chipped Spike. The ending gets me every time and the use of T. S. Eliot is perfect.

I now need to think about what I can pare down out of my vast reading to be essential Angel.Goes off to ponder
OK after further consideration I'll offer you a post-NFA Shanshu fic which hits all the right AU buttons for me. It's the first part of a trilogy where Angel comes to terms with his past, his present and his future. Find it at Scribes of Angel although the other two parts aren't there. Last one, and I've recc'd it before because I just love her writing and her characters seem so true to the 'verse that I'll have to have a second NFA story. It's called Pentimento.
