ruminations
Nov. 28th, 2007 04:30 pm I just had a little Bones fest today while in the final stages of recovery and I gotta say I am pleasantly surprised by how good the majority ie all bar 1 really, of Season 3 epis have been. When you watch them in a chunk the thing that comes across is that these people are friends and of course how good David has become in this role.
Now I see Dr Sweets has been added to the credits.
I'm definitely on the mend though I had to go to bed at 8.30 last night. Oh and today is my mother's 80th birthday. Happy birthday mam and happy birthday to
thebratqueen but that's tomorrow so I'm early. Stay healthy.
This week's offering Santa in the Slush was good from the group dynamic point of view especially, the Julian inspired kiss aside. I mean why would she want Brennan to kiss Booth? Silly and I am not going to squee over it like some teen fangirl. We of mature years gloss over such audience participation as is no doubt going on as I type on certain communities.
No what I liked was Booth's reactions to well... everything. Starting from the first appearance of THE COAT and jumper and the sulking about his Christmas being ruined to the Christmas tree at the end Booth was extra good tonight. The sheer joy on his face when he saw the train and the lights and the ginger bread men at the Santa's home? Priceless. I loved the way he lied to Parker for all the right reasons. I loved the way he reacted to the kiss and the way he just produced the gum out of his mouth like it was a surprise to him. I loved all the banter and his attempt to define myth. The argument he had in the alley with the Chinese guy bordered on surreal but was nicely bookended by the way he left Hodgins in the dumpster after he's made him deal with a cockroach. Heee. The way he so did not want to smell the Santas' butts and his objection to the wet sweater smelling one: all a joy.
And apart from some heavy-handedness in one or two places that's the feeling I've had from the other ones I've watched today: a joy. To watch people squirm in the way they can't handle relationships when they get too intense (apart from Jack and Angela) seems real for these people. To feel you're watching people develop is a pleasant change; they're not too weird or even superhuman. They even laugh at that aspect of their personae by the costumes they chose for Halloween: WonderWoman, Clark Kent (not Superman, he's trying to be that in his job.) Hodgins going down with the Titanic, Zack as the backend of a cow; Angela as Cher, Camille trying to out-superhero Brennan but choosing Catwoman to do it. I'm probably reading too much into that but I found it amusing.

Date: 2007-11-29 04:01 pm (UTC)but other than that? i liked it. if i just let go of expectations and go with the pretty, then Bones is a lot of fun. also: THE COAT. yes. and the running down the alley. man, but DB is looking good, huh?
it feels like there are a lot of loose threads from past seasons that don't seem to be followed up on, but i'm enjoying it nonetheless. i really dig cam and zack, and i hope there's eventually a hook up there.
