Wooh!
In other news Halloween-a-thon great success. Loads to eat and drink and party game involving bin bag, paper plate and cups; tissue paper; plastic insects, pumpkin straw; string and two chocolate coins. Had to dress two people out of that. Great laughter at our paper cup codpiece complete with fly and cockroach. I won a rubber bat to go with last year's but I've lost it in a drunken stupor... sigh
Knackered today.
Vented the old spleen at work yesterday and felt so much better for it. A cretin had decided that staff run detention was not his cup of tea so he invoked his union rep-ness and declared to the Head that the majority of staff were agin it. Head announces this at morning briefing and that in the face of most staff being disgruntled we would revert to the previous method. Stunned silence for remainder of time. No names had been mentioned but I knew who was responsible. So I asked him. He admitted it and smirked as if he had done us all a favour. Bearing in mind it would mean everyone doing their own detentions at least once a week and for Heads of Department TWICE as opposed to the current 2-3 times a term I told him what I thought... loudly.... in the corridor. He had the gall to say fair play we had a vote. Except only some of his members were at the meeting and not all of them had a chance to vote. Fair play hmm? Secondly, he hadn't informed the other unions of their decision. Thirdly he had claimed the majority of staff shared the view. HE HADN'T ASKED ANY OF THEM. I was livid and stormed off to assembly. I was literally shaking with rage.
Subsequently the Deputy head who had naturally heard me, asked for a quiet word to see if I could confirm how accurate the 'majority' figure was. Thanked me. Later another Senior manager thanked me. Two colleagues offered their support. Today, the Head thanked me. Seems many members of staff had gone to see her also expressing their support. A memo came out asking people to sign up if they wanted to continue with the staff method. All I've heard is support. The cretin was off today. The wimp. Stress probably. Hope he cried the selfish git. Course he's just the mouthpiece for the bully boys. Shot down in flames - I hope.
