Nothing to show

By Jove the country is stunned and I am at a loss to see why. We were rubbish. From the moment we arrived in South Africa we were rubbish. Consider the team we played today:
David James a goalkeeper aged 40. He has hardly played this season and when he did it was for a team who were relegated. 22nd of 22 teams in the Premier League. He wasn't too bad today though.
David Johnson injured half the season and playing in a poor Liverppol team that haven't qualified for Europe next season. Not an international full back. Never won anything in Europe.
Ashley Cole injured half the season. Played for the Premier League champions but never won anything in Europe. Was one of the better defenders.
John Terry has had a lot of personal baggage. Stripped of the captaincy after sordid details of an affair with another player's girlfriend became public. Tried to start a coup amongst the team in South Africa but was battered back by Capello. Famously missed the penalty that cost Chelsea the Champions League. Never won anything in Europe.
Matthew Upson 4th choice centre half (!) after Ferdinand (injured) King (injured) and Carragher (suspended and then why change a winning team). West Ham player who struggled to avoid relegation all season, were taken over and then sacked their manager. Never won anything.
James Milner Promising midfielder from Aston Villa serial under-achievers. Never won anything.
Frank Lampard 22 goals from midfield this season. Star member of Chelsea's Premier League Champions. Never won anything in Europe.
Seriously under-performed in this world cup.
Steven Gerrard. Had an in and out season for Liverpool with nowhere near his usual standard. May have been unsettled by poor quality of this Liverpool team missing Torres most of the season. Won the European Cup 5 years ago. Nothing since in Europe. Had to play out of position for England.
Gareth Barry played for serial underachievers Aston Villa for years before moving to new wannabes Manchester City. He was injured and a doubt for the squad after they arrived in South Africa. Never won anything in Europe.
Jermain Defoe. Set off like a train for Spurs this season and scored 18 goals. Got injured and seriously tailed off at the end of the season. Never won anything. Substituted today when team was 4-1 down. Replaced by Emil Heskey the only England striker never to score.
Wayne Rooney only topped by Didier Drogba this season as goal scorer of the year. However, he was injured towards the end of the season and the goals dried up. Won the Champions League 3 years ago, but did not score in the final against Chelsea.
This is the so called Golden generation and when you look at them on a World stage only 2 of them have actually won anything outside of the domestic game and even then Rooney was playing against an English team. Yet they were expected, by the media at least, to get to the semi final. Well you could forget that when they won only one of the group games and ended up in the half of the draw where they could potentially meet Germany and Argentina before getting to the semis.
Mr Capello means to stay and see them through the European qualifying where we have another soft group.
Root and branch, that is what is needed. The following players from this squad can go: James, Green, Johnson, Terry, Lampard, Barry, Wright-Phillips, Heskey.
4-4-2 does not work at the World Cup. It doesn't even work at Manchester United where Rooney plays as a lone striker. 4-5-1 is what the majority of players play domestically and they are used to it.
Fabio Capello is not the answer. He has never managed in England; he cannot speak good English; he is intransigent in his tactics.
