Meanwhile, I'm as nervous as a cat on hot bricks with the match looming ahead this afternoon. The chance is there in that Newcastle are on the ropes with half the team either missing through injury, or on the way out the door. If we don't beat them now, we don't deserve to survive.

I shall take it as a good omen that Athletic Bilbao, the Spanish team founded by Sunderland workers, came back to win 3-2 in the dying minutes last night. I shall also remember that our greatest triumph in modern times at St James' Park happened in appalling weather and saw the end of the Ruud Gullit regime there. Although it's dry now, there are blizzards on the way from Russia allegedly, somewhere in the North Sea now. Could be snowed in tomorrow. I have food. The only worry is power cuts.

Faintly flurrying flakes for February -5pm. Well it is snowing. We wait to see whether it means it.

1 - 1 in an enthralling derby. They equalised with a dodgy penalty and both sides hit the post so fair dos. However, we should have had a penalty first half and Cisse (who scored good lad) had to come off with an injury. Ricky was satisfied with a point and I suppose I am too. We're 13th and still above the Mags.

Snow looks to be set in now, but it's too dark to see if it is settling.
