Stoopid Internetz. Thanks to the insalubrious weather the Thursday posting was cancelled. I could not got on line for love nor money. Pah and bah! So, for the purposes of my twelve days it is now Thursday. See, I must have subconciously known it would happen and I got ahead of myself. Pity I put myself right. Thursday17th December Snooooooow! Quite a lot of it actually which fortunately did not interfere too much with our Christmas party at Valentino's. There was a bit of a panic when the traffic got stuck at the bottom of my road, but it cleared and we were able to get off the hills and down in the valley where the snow was sensibly in the fields and not on the road. I had a very succulent steak with mussels and king prawns accompanied by CHIPS Yummy. This was followed by a white chocolate bombe (mousse) and accompanied by a bottle of wine. 25 quid all in. From Secret Santa I got a plastic reindeer that dispenses jelly beans from its bum, a bath tub duck and something else that I can't remember because I can't find the carrier at the moment. I also got two bouquets, one an unusual one of fir tree branches and berries. Very appropriate for the season. I have put them in a vase and it is now my Christmas tree. It's beside the white Christmas cactus which is in full bloom. Yippee.
FRIDAY 18TH DECEMBER Heavy snow overnight but the gritters did sterling work and the roads were clear to get me to work for the last time. Did a lot of sitting about in the morning trying to listen to the cricket without much success as the whiteboard in my room broke again. I think it's an omen. Anyway got through the day and then had most of the good bits of my speech pre-empted by the Head so that was disappointing. Still, the Chair of the Governors came to wish me well so that was thoughtful. I got a number of presents which are still in the car becauae it is too icy to carry them into the house. I asked for a Tiffany style lamp, so I have that to look forward to in the morning. However, Pat had given me her present earlier in the week and I hadn't opened it so I have just done so. It is a Green Man wall plaque and I absolutely love it. It is just me. So with the fir boughs and that I feel all Winter Solstice-y and of the season as it should be celebrated. I shall be lighting candles later and ny log fire looks real. It is perfect. Tomorrow I shall have to shop in Consett because I am not going down to mam and dad's. I need an underslip and pair of slippers as well as some veggies and something for dinner. Hope it's not too icy.
