Not much to say really.
This was an episode that nearly came off. Thankfully, Booth's clothes did which made up for everything else. That scene was worth everything - Daisy, Sweets, Zooey who was there just so people could say, 'Oh look there's Emily's sister. I wonder if we'll get Dave's dad now that he's retired?'
This episode was stronger than Santa in the Slush but not as good as Man in the Fallout Shelter. Yes, I know we get schmoopy episodes at Christmas, but everyone going to Brennan's for Christmas dinner was a sad indictment of our cast's lives. Ironically, the only one with family members there was Bones. Not a gift was bought, not a phonecall was made, not a grandpa mentioned.
What I liked:
Angela, though I see she has gone old school on the facial reconstruction. What has happened to the Angelator? This new bluescreen thing is a bit of a comedown.
David Boreanaz acted his socks off even if he kept them on.
How upset he was when Bones backtracked on the dinner invitation. Still it was at least trying to save him from her cousin that prompted her. And it allowed Booth to say what everybody thinks at Christmas: you can't choose your relations
.
The angry radical guy actually had character development
.
Booth's longline jacket. Whatever anyone else says about regulation FBI outfits, it looked cool. It did.
Cam being a proper mom to Michelle, though Michelle caved too quickly from 'I'm furious' to 'I love you too'
.
Mrs Chevalier if that was the victim's mother's name. She was lovely.
The funeral scene and Booth's coat. It was also nice that everybody showed up as a mark of respect to the dead guy.
What I didn't like:
Ryan O'Neal and Zooey Deschanel acting by numbers.
If they are going to introduce a second cousin - and where were they when Bones was 15? - then give her more than Benjamin Franklin aphorisms. She was like something from the Addams Family. While thinking about Brennan's family, I find it unlikely that she never knew she had any relations at any point in her life. I think I remember Max saying they never told her, but if she had a grandfather to save her from the system (as was also stated once) why did she not ask him? Also, when Max gave her the ring from her mother he mentioned two aunts then. Has Brennan never thought to look them up since?
Daisy and Sweets doing emoticons speak. I was with Cam on the yakking.
How sunny and warm it looked. December in Washington and Booth is wandering around in a suit while everyone else is bundled up. At least it looked cold on Christmas Day in the cemetery with the snow. It made everyone look rosy.
So, it was OK as an episode and worth every moment of Booth without clothes. DB is ripped.
This is my last five days of employment coming up. I wrote a speech in my head while in bed on Friday night which sounded OK. I hope I can remember the funny bits when I come to actually write it down.
