It's over; 16 days of Olympic dreams have either come true or bitten the dust. In honour of the British 4th place finish in the medal table I offer a patriotic picspam of the winners of 19 gold medals for Britain, most of which did involve sitting down, or water, or both.

First, 3 medals won by women: Nicole Cooke, road cycling and Becky Adlington in longer distance swimming. She may not have won 8 like Michael Phelps, but she did become the first British woman to win a swimming gold medal since 1960. And then she won another one in world record time over 800 metres.

Our big hero is coming up. Here are other cycling heroes: Bradley Wiggins and the rest of the World record breaking Team Pursuit lads.

Our main man, the Real McHoy who as a Scotsman was less than pleased to hear the announcer announce "Representing England", I give you the first British man to complete this feat at the same Games since 1908, three time gold medallist Chris Hoy.

Chris Hoy

Athlete of the Games for me has to be Usain 'Lightning' Bolt. He won three gold medals. He set three World Records, one with the help of the Jamaican sprint relay team, one that only he can probably beat in the foreseeable future and one held since 1996 by Michael Johnson. He didn't take himself too seriously.

Usain Bolt

Winning the gold in the 100 metres, he almost stopped to see where everyone else was.

Bolt 100m

In the 200 metres he ran to break the World record and succeeded.

I wonder what he'll do in 2012?

The Closing Ceremony was reasonably entertaining as the torch was passed to London's Mayor Boris Johnson. He waved the flag very nicely but then tried to put his hands in his pockets. What leader in the sight of the watching world can't put his hands at his sides like everyone else on the stage? Prat will be lapping this up with his bleached blond hair and oafish look. There'll be a Tory Government in too. The sun was shining in London at any rate.
