That's not the right word, but I like it. So, first day of retirement and what happens? Children are running around in the snow because Consett's schools are shut. Bah!

Lovely sunny day today, but bitter cold. I have no thermometer to check the temperature, but the forecast was for below freezing. Judging by the icicles that would be true. So I worked up some heat by doing housework. He he he. So far I have cleared up Christmas and birthday stuff, hoovered, planted an amaryllis, sorted the washing, made the bed and cleaned all the worktops in the kitchen. For me, that is a lot. I may get into a routine.

Still to do: the coffee table under the window, the dining room table papers, the pile under it, the back bedroom heaps and the pillow mountain in my room. However, I have plenty of time. No need to rush.

The FA Cup draw was reasonably kind to us: an away game at either Portsmouth or Coventry. Manchester Utd were very poor against Leeds from the first division and lost 1 - 0 at home. Leeds got Spurs away as a reward.

I had a strange dream last night, part of which I can actually remember although the details have gone. It involved Mulder and Scully (I blame you [livejournal.com profile] britishwannabe1 ). Scully was in a snit because they had been on an all nighter and she had had no sleep. So we made our way to a hotel which seemed to be built on the mountain in the opening sequence of The Sound of Music. I don't think we could get in the hotel so Scully disappeared to find a bed or food or something and Mulder and I set off across the big mountain meadow. There were some other people there. Then we got buzzed by an owl. It was a real bird and quite owl like but small and more colourful, kind of like a kingfisher's colours. Mulder tried to catch it, but he couldn't. Whenever he got close, it flew off. It kept coming back though and I caught it. It lay in my hand on its back and let me stroke its tummy. There were other things, but that's the most vivid bit I can remember.

Strange but true.
