Two steps forward, One step back
Sep. 3rd, 2007 03:16 pmYou know you've reached a certain age when you start a new term and you've heard it all before.
The review of progress was quite encouraging: nobody got put publicly in the naughty corner and two people were picked out for special praise.
But, the discipline progress went out of the window and we went back to the individual approach that puts the detention situation squarely back into the classroom teacher's court because the whole school solution didn't work. So badly behaved children will be detained by the teacher for whom they were badly behaved. This may work because the victim then becomes the perceived punisher. However, if you have a particularly problem-child heavy timetable, there could be difficulty in asserting discipline through aheer weight of numbers.
Well, we'll see.
Lots of new colleagues and I hadn't even learned the names of last year's crop.
So, new Year 7s in tomorrow and the whole school on Wednesday when I will have my last year with my current form. We've had some ups and downs but generally they are good kids, who are beginning to turn into young adults. It just seems like yesterday that they were little!
