Damp squib
Feb. 8th, 2007 10:29 pmSNooooooooowww !! Then it went. I was disappointed. Bones! which I was looking forward to and then meh, largely disappointing except when David was on which was not enough.
This was poor fare and just proved how much this show owes to David. It's charisma or just the screen likes him but even when he was hamming it up with Fry it was just I don't know what.... body language? investment in the role? he gives good angst? Whatever, once I'd got over the fact that Stephen Fry dwarfed him I loved what David did after he'd got over the clown murder. He absolutely nailed that last scene where he had to admit he wasn't in control like he needed to be. Also. David can act with any one. He just looks like he knows what to do. I love him in this role.
As for the ersatz Booth. Hopeless. I do not believe that after all that Booth has done for her Brennan would be taken in by such a wannabe. I thought that unfocused type drove her mad but no; Sully just has to say 'scapula' and she goes all Bambi. He even said the same lines as Booth did at the beginning of his relationship with Brennan and this time she swallows them whole. And he can't act; he's just a ragbag of recycled Booth and utterly unbelievable abilities. What's he been doing without a partner for a whole year? Get real people! They cannot have a relationship after two days of knowing each other. He didn't even try to get to know the squints and they just ignored him. Get Booth front and centre now! I hope we don't have to have Sully's background and a breakdown. It's just like Groo: an unnecessary addition to a formula that hasn't been going long enough to be stale already. Speaking of Groo I was worried that when Wyatt offered Booth tea and a chance to cogitate we would get the Tish M'Gev again. He even made remarks about Booth's appearance - belt buckle and quirky socks. See David was wearing his own clothes again - could have been a dig from the show's producers. Now I think about it you could see the therapeutic barbecue pit as a parallel to fishing and Sully in the Wesley role of donning Angel's coat and trying to fill his shoes. Hmmm. Well at least we know Booth is not a eunuch.

Yesterday we were unstoppable teened for an hour and a half after work. It was utterly useless.
Bought a bottle of wine on the way home for the musical-athon which turned out to be surprisingly potable for £3.99 from the Co-op. The films were good: Debra's three: The Wizard of Oz, Cheek to Cheek, Cabaret; my On the Town which completely fooled them (hah). Oklahoma, Calamity Jane, The Rocky Horror Show, Singing in the Rain and 7 Brides for 7 Brothers completed the line up. Pizza and trifle. Good times.
