woo-hoo
It;s been a strange day. First the good and interesting stuff (for me anyway.)
Now the sad news. The NUT General Secretary died suddenly today aged 56. I met him in 2004 when he was running for the position. He was a lovely man, very caring and committed to the teaching profession. We are going on strike for one day after the holidays - first NUT strike in 21 years - over pay and it is ironic that he won't be there to see it. Terrible news.
It's snowing today. Bloody freezing when we were at the shops, nasty northerly wind and everything. So I had a very nice steak at Elizabeth's restaurant to keep body and soul together.
And.... I'm on holiday weeee. Technically this is the Easter break. One week from now I'll be in Boston MA weeee (again). This is assuming BA don't lose our bags between Newcastle and Heathrow Terminal 5 which is still in meltdown 10 days after their official opening. After that it's Virgin Atlantic all the way baby.
The lovely Lynn retired yesterday. I can't believe it. That just leaves Trevor and Pat as having worked longer at the school than me. I must be on the final stretch now surely?
Sunderland have won away AGAIN!!! First time they've won 3 games in a row in the Premier League since December 2000. So that was good. Unfortunately, Newcastle also won so we didn't overtake them, but still, 3 goals away from home is brilliant. We are 10 points clear of the drop zone and surely safe. My predicted 3 of Derby, Fulham (who we beat today) and Bolton Wanderers (who lost) look like the 3 to go.
Next, my dad has been talking to Niall Quinn at the pub again. I think I was offline the first time they communed which was basically just a word about whose pint was on the bar; yesterday he gave my dad a tip for the Grand National - and it won. If only we'd had some money on it.
Who is Niall Quinn? He is the Chairman of Sunderland AFC and my all time football legend hero. I used to love watching him play with Kevin Phillips, but he was definitely my favourite. My dad says he's a quietly spoken man but very big. I told my dad he was 6ft 4 and my dad says he looks bigger - he had to duck to get in the door. So that was interesting.
