Paul got it right!

The octopus was awesome. The Dutch let themselves down significantly. Sadly a controversial goal won it but Holland got what they deserved for the way they approached the game which was appalling. Mr Webb did not come out of the game very well, but he was fighting a losing battle with such cynical tactics to face. Really he should have sent at least one Dutch player off, but probably didn't want to spoil the game. Don't worry Howard, the teams did that. Very shoddy end to a shoddy tournament.

I found this so I am going out with a bang with the official song from France 1998. That's more like it!

I forgot to say it has been horribly windy today - gale force for most of the time. It's calmed down now.

That octopus - didn't he only get one wrong?? What a dude.

D predicted Spain to win and Iniesta to score from day one. Of course we didn't put any money on it. Sigh.

I think Paul only got one wrong in the Europeans when he predicted Germany would beat Spain in the final. They lost. I think he was 100% in the World Cup.

Your betting instincts are like mine. I pick loads of winners when watching horse racing but never get the money on them.

I am disappointed in the Dutch, but very pleased that Spain won - they deserved it. Mind you, I don't like their habit of leaving it to the last few minutes of a game to score the winning goal! I still can't get over how negative the Dutch were, our poor ref didn't stand a chance as one team turned up with no intention of actually playing football - how do you referee a game like that??

As fun a distraction as it's been, it's truly a sad day when a result predicting octopus is one of the main highlights of a world cup... I honestly can't even joke about that too much at the moment. So disappointing.

I've enjoyed your posts though :-)

One has to make the best of a bad business. It felt like a very tired World Cup as if a lot of players had left their best moments behind in the seasons with their clubs e.g. Messi or were injured e.g. Rooney and Torres.

I thought the coverage was pretty poor as well: the BBC panel were self absorbed has beens and ITV were just amateurish. I liked their signature tune though.Sky made it sound like a very special tournament - even the final which I'm afraid was just awful. I didn't even watch it after half time and I'm a football nut.
