'Clearly Booth is tapping into resources he used to get through similar, and worse, beatings in the past.' I agree - I think I read somewhere that soldiers are taught a method of detaching their mind from their body in situations of bodily torture, as this can help them to endure and survive. To me that is exactly how Booth was coping. For most of the time he seemed to be elsewhere, except when they showed him his photo of Parker, of course. The only other crack I saw was when Lightner was heating up the screwdriver - this was in the forefront of the screen, but behind the flame and the screwdriver Booth drops his head as if he 'let go' just for a few seconds. Yes, Booth is tough, and, like you, I reckon the seeds to that were born way back in childhood. The only way for him to survive was to be tough. (Makes me want to hug him for long periods of time!)
I have to say that I was really hacked off with Brennan during her diatribe in 'Player under Pressure' I'm not surprised Booth was pissed at her, and I'm glad he told her exactly how he felt about it. During the early years she was far too fond of spouting her beliefs at him without any thought or care about how offensive she was being. Booth's tolerance was epic most of the time.
Another wonderfully thoughtful and thought-provoking post, Mis. Thank you. Rosie xx
