Ta-daaa!

I've done it! Thirty days of consecutive posts means I have completed the Blog Post Month Challenge and while it may not be NaNoWriMo's 50000 words I must have got in a tidy sum.

So it's a tad disappointing to end the month with the lads getting thumped 1 - 4 at home by Bolton Wanderers yesterday and Roy Keane considering his future. Oh dear. We are away at Manchester United next week, never a happy hunting ground. I fear it could be his swan-song. The lads are all scared to play as well which is never good when you're in the bottom three. I will light a candle and offer some soothing art to you from Pieter de Hooch.

This is one of the painters to identify in this month's quiz and here is another. They want his real name.

Fra Angelico

Now, today is Jonathan Swift's birthday. The author of Gulliver's Travels was also of course a minister and Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral. Here is a little story about him.
Swift once took refuge from a summer storm under a tree while travelling from London to Chester. Under the spreading boughs of the oak was a young couple. They were to be married in nearby Lichfield but as the woman was about to give birth, Swift proposed he could perform the ceremony then and there, to which they eagerly agreed. With the weather brightening and the rites concluded, the wedded pair were about to depart when the husband realised that a formal certification would be needed to document the proceedings. Swift provided them with the following.

Under an oak, in stormy weather,
I joined this rogue and whore together;
And none but he who rules the thunder
Can put this rogue and whore asunder.

Happy birthday Dean Swift!
