The law of diminishing returns

That sounds quite impressive as a subject line but it's only fannish in intent. Been off work today feeling pretty meh. I think it's just a slow burning cold coupled with stress induced bleeding. Nothing for two years and then whap, let's knock the hormones out of whack why don't we. So I've been mooching about all day feeling icky.

There's very little online about Bones this week, hence the subject yadda yadda. People are all bound up in real life issues I suppose like American politics and such. I thought a little light relief would be needed and people would be leaping online to talk about the new telly shows not the Palin - Biden debate. I suppose it wasn't a very squee worthy episode.

Anyway here's what I thought.

Inter-office relations front and centre this week and again the team and the case were closely linked.

Of course the most recent romance and its breakdown is that between Hodgins and Angela. The result has been Hodgins being off his game, relying on others to make the intuitive leap from his findings. The tension between him and Angela results in awkward pauses, avoidance and Angela again mis-interpreting what someone is talking about. This time she thinks the bow Hodgins brings her is a belated gift, not part of the victim. It's interesting that her last two episodes have involved misreading a situation, suggesting she is off her game too. Another example of this is going to Brennan of all people for relationship advice. Usually, it's the other way round with Angela offering her take on Brennan's love life or lack of it. Of course, Brennan has no idea what to say and so when she offers to sack Hodgins, Angela turns that down and leaves Brennan getting a rush for thinking she has helped.

Later she tries Sweets, but when she doesn't like what he says either, she psychoanalyses herself and leaves with her path clear. So she finally goes to Jack and tells him she can deal with their breakup, it's not her first, she'll just remember the good times and move on. Jack smiles happily: this is the steamroller he knows and loved.

After that, the case itself was a bit of a letdown, full of inter-office rivalries, bitching and petty theft. Even Booth joined in with his demands for a new chair THE chair that had been coveted by all Agents for years. When he finally got it, it proved disappointing, though he tried to make the best of  it in his optimistic way. Much like me and this episode; making the best of a poor job.

I enjoyed:
The lugubrious intern of the week though I couldn't manage him every week.
Booth's knowledge of Blue Hawaiians, their effect ("Why am I naked and who are all these people"), and how they are served.
The way nobody ate their own fries. Why order them?

Pointless thoughts:
Booth seems to be eating soup and possibly cereal, things in bowls anyway, on a weekly basis. Could be just me plumbing the depths for interesting things to say about Booth, cos this week? Not much to say apart from the touchy feely bit with the murderer and the way he is able to take a pratfall in his stride when the wonder chair collapsed.

The cold has become more pronounced, mine and the weather. Snow in Scotland was forecast today and it's just October. Brrr.

Thomas Wolfe's birthday today. Magnum opus: Look Homeward Angel. Sounds like a fanfic title. Oh how you mock poorly ickle me.
