Remember remembrance
Weekend's worth of Remembrance so haven't posted.Try this:
And:
And for good measure:
School on Friday was very good. The kids responded well to the poetry and Inspection went OK. Surprisingly, none of thm knew the Last Post when I played it off the Royal British Legion Cdrom. Hmmm.
Saturday it rained like anything. Took mam up to shops in the deluge. We had to change our clothes when we got back absolutely wringing wet..
Sunday watched the Cenotaph stuff on telly as moving as ever. The man on Radio 4 read eye witness accounts of the first day of the Somme while the Royal party moved off and his voice got shakier and shakier as he was moved by the words 90 years on.
Mad (1914)
Neck-deep in mud,
He mowed and raved -
He who had braved The field of blood -
And as a lad
Just out of school
Yelled - April Fool!
And laughed like mad
It's a bit different, and he lived until 1962. Gibson came from Hexham which is quite close to where I live. Not bad for 1914 I thought.
